The Ruganska family lived in a two-bedroom flat in the town of Shchastya in the Lugansk region which was severely impacted by the fighting. Mother Elizaveta, 8 month-old daughter Zlata and Elizaveta’s mother remained in the town for the first 3 months of the conflict and tried to carry on with their lives, ignoring the danger. Elizaveta is a hairdresser and her mother is a nurse. Elizaveta’s husband served in the military and fought in Maidan during the revolution of dignity in Kyiv and then in Aidar battalion which was made up of volunteers. It’s been a year since Zlata’s father was arrested. As a result he missed the birth of his daughter and has never seen her. It is possible that he will remain imprisoned for 15 years.
As is the case with so many people, Elizaveta and her family were forced to flee their homes as the fighting escalated, leaving everything behind. The three now live together in Odessa in a single room. The stress caused by their situation has led to a deterioration in the health of Elizaveta’s mother who now suffers from failing eyesight and psoriasis. In addition, Elizaveta’s disabled sister lives in the room opposite with her two sons Ivan (12) and Aleksey (8).To help support their young baby Zlata the family is in need of the following:
- Baby food
- Orthopaedic shoes prescribed by a hospital
